Cerro 🇮🇹 ITALY

The wooden sculptures in the Forest at Cerro

The sculpture trail starts from Cerro, a tiny village above Caldana.

The wooden sculptures in the Enchanted Forest created by the skilled hands of Sergio Terni, a local artist.

You can park your car in the parking area near the church.
From here, you can take Via Castaneto on foot and after 100 meters, follow the signs for the trail
It’s a flat path of about 1 kilometer located within the beech forest, an easy hike suitable for families with children.

The sculptures are carved from chestnut wood, true works of art! Inside the forest, all the paths are marked, with the possibility, for example, of reaching Forte Orino.

A fairy tale in the woods for both adults and children!

The sculptures in the forest in relation to Arte Povera

They represent a type of outdoor art characterized by the presence of sculptural works positioned in a natural environment, such as a park or forest.
This type of art became famous in Italy in the 1970s thanks to the Arte Povera movement, of which forest sculpture is a part.

Arte Povera is an artistic movement born in Italy in the 1960s that opposed industrialized artistic production and expensive, precious materials.
Artists of this movement used poor, recycled, or natural materials and often referenced nature and the human dimension.
The works were often ephemeral or easily dismantled, emphasizing the transience of life and the impermanence of things.

The sculptures in the forest follow these same guidelines of Arte Povera, using materials such as wood, stones, leaves, branches, and other natural elements to create works that seamlessly integrate into the surrounding environment.
The idea is to create a dialogue between the artwork and nature, where the artwork becomes an integral part of the environment and reflects its characteristics and peculiarities.

Today, both are considered important artistic movements that have contributed to redefining the very concept of art and bringing attention to issues such as the environment, nature, and sustainability.
Many contemporary artists continue to use these techniques and approaches, demonstrating how art can have a significant impact on society and the environment in which we live.
