Hamlet ‘Ricetto del Candelo’ (Biella)
Just a 10-minute drive from Biella, you’ll find the picturesque Ricetto di Candelo, a medieval fortified village located right in the municipality of Candelo itself.
It is a defensive structure erected by the will of the local population.
Originally conceived to protect and preserve the community’s most precious assets, this hamlet served as a storage facility for agricultural products during times of peace and as a temporary refuge during periods of war or danger.
The term “Ricetto” means shelter or refuge.
Its walls, made of herringbone-patterned pebbles, and the surrounding buildings, also constructed with brick, testify to its ancient strength and architectural beauty.
Access to the Ricetto is through an imposing tower-gate, characterized by two openings: a larger one for vehicles (the carriage pass) and a smaller one for pedestrians.
The Ricetto di Candelo is always open to the public free of charge and hosts some events throughout the year. See here for more information on scheduled activities.
The Picturesque Canyon at Castelletto Cervo
Take the SS758 east from Biella and exit at the village of Castelletto Cervo/Lessona.
Park just before the town of Castelletto Cervo, then proceed on foot along the course of the stream to the north.
Over hundreds of years, where the Strona and Cervo streams converge, deep canyons have formed, creating sands of a thousand colors.
Over the years, layers of different consistency and coloration have developed in this area, leaving one breathless.
The colors of the sands light up especially at sunset, intensifying. Several marine fossils, traces of animals, and plants have been found here, now exhibited in the Museum of the Biellese Territory.
The Museum of Fake and Deception
The Museum of Fake and Deception in Verrone is a place that explores the concept of forgery and deception through various forms of artistic and historical expression.
You will find that the journey into the world of forgery will not only be beautiful but also fun, discovering how, even in ancient times, man managed to deceive his fellow men with clever lies.
This museum will leave anyone who visits it stunned; it is truly worth a visit.
